About me

Nuno Miguel Batista Alves, (Alcaide, Portugal, 1976)

Hello! My name is Nuno Alves, I'm 40 years old.

I'm graduated in Ceramics and Glass Design, by ESTGAD, IPLeiria (a university in Caldas da Rainha, Portugal).

Since my garduation I have been working in many different projects, like:

As a Craft Designer for about 15 years;

As a Teacher for about 15 years;

As a Product Designer (kitchen Furniture design) for about 4 years;

As a Designer for Fab Lab Aldeias do Xisto

As a Craft Designer, I have my own workshop where I'm developing my own project OFFICINA - OBJECTOS IMPROVÁVEIS where I design, develop and produce objects, unlikely, curious, utilitarian, unique...

Which carry with them a set of memories and identities, a culture, a concept, a place, a moment. Objects produced in a sustainable way, by combining the low technology and the know-how with the high technology, more and more accessible, and applying the methodologies and processes of the design to the traditional knowledge and techniques, CRAFT DESIGN. The Serra da Gardunha functions as the agglutinator of the whole process, either with raw material supplier or as an inspiration for the new products.

As a Designer for Fab Lab Aldeias do Xisto i see this colaboration as a logical sequence of the work that I have been developing and an upgrade in my education with a focus on the fab lab principles.
